Sicilian dress code
Will be traveling to Sicily to meet my boyfriends extended family and would love not to stick out like a sore thumb. Any advice on how to dress? This whole no shorts and no flip flop thing is scaring this California girl!!

well, you have to remember you are in a different culture when you visit a foreign country. Women in Sicily, assuming you are an adult, dress conservately. If you want the family to accept you, you had better adapt.
Wear skirts and capris and sandals.

I agree 100% with SeaUrchin, except make that "conservatively". Not that I didn't see plenty of women there that were "tarted up", but I think everyone would have agreed they looked cheap, and you don't want that to be the impression you give, right?

(thanks for the typo alert)
dar923, if you would see some of the looks the mamas and nonas give barely dressed women and the different kinds of looks from the men you would know what we mean.
flip flops should be ok though, although it is dusty in parts of Sicly. What area are you visiting?

SeaUrchin, I will be visiting Terrasini. Luckily I am 50% italian so I am familiar with "the look" from the mama's. But for my first trip there I just wanted to make sure, especially because I am meeting the family. My family hasn't been back since the 80's and I would hope the fashion has changed so they really aren't much help, plus they are from another part of Italy...Thank you so much for your responses!!!
