Shops open on Sunday in Orvieto?
Help from the experts please! I shall be in Orvieto on Sunday 1 May. I know villages and Towns can be quite "sleepy" in Italy on a Sunday. Will this also be the case with Orvieto? Or will shops be open because of the number of tourists?
I thought of visiting Assisi on May Day - but read on this forum there will be May Day celebrations in Assisi. How will this influence the atmosphere (and traffic!) in Assisi?

We've been to Orvieto several times on a Sunday. Many of the tourist oriented shops around the Duomo will be open - ceramics, wine, pre-packaged pasta etc. Many of the more interesting & unique shops farther into town will not. I think that the ice cream shop to the left of the Duomo as you face it will be open. Never been there on May Day, however, so don't know how that affects things.
Many shops in Pienza will be open also, if you are heading in that direction. Perhaps most shops in San Gimignano will be open.
