I know the shoe topic has been discussed before, but has anyone had experience with Keen Shoes (it's hard to search on because keen comes up as a word all over the place!). I'm actually going to Asia (in February), but since this board gets so much more traffic, I thought I'd ask you all - are they comfortable walking shoes in hot, humid weather? They seem like they'd be great because they provide a lot of foot protection but still give you ventilation.

Do you plan on being in water? They look very "sporty" to me, and if you are not doing water activities, there might be a better shoe out there IMHO

It looks as if they sweat, but there are mixed reiviews you may want to read.

I bought the same pair on Zappos to use last summer for light hiking and lake activities in Switzerland and Northern Italy, but had to cancel the trip (rescheduled for June).

So, while I haven't used them for travel, I did wear them around last summer.
They are comfortable and breathe well with good protection. I find them VERY comfy with a light pair of "hiking" type footies, but there is one rub spot when I wear them barefoot for a long time. Still, that might just be back luck on that one shoe (the other side is fine) and another friend say hers don't rub at all.

I really like them and recommend them. With Zappos' great and easy return policy, it would be worth a try.

I was able to try them on at Dick's Sporting Goods (they're on sale) - and within 2-3 minutes my feet seemed to start sweating. (Yes, I cheated and tried them without socks.) They seemed quite comfortable, but I think socks would be a necessity - which, as someone said on the Rick Steves thread - kind of defeats the purpose of sandals. Thanks for your thoughts!

Karen - i have a very similar pair of Keens (mine are a bit more enclosed) that I do really love, but the closure mechanism has loosened up, so that the shoes are never very tight on me. Even when I snug them up, after 2 min of walking the plastic thing holding the elastic laces slides out, loosening them. It helps a bit to tuck the elastic laces down through all the other criss crosses; again they are very comfortable, and I would still buy them again. I always wear socks with them.

I could just go with socks - but they look sooo geeky with sandals. Especially when you're wearing them with Capris! That's even worse than with shorts!
