shipping wine within italy?

We are visting Italy and Greece in October and are wondering about shipping wine...from all I have read, it is best to carry it on to bring it back to the US. However, we are visiting Tuscany within the first few days of our trip and don't want to haul the wine all over Italy and then on the planes to/from Greece. What about shipping it from Tuscany to the hotel we are staying in our last night in Rome (about 10 days difference)? Any thoughts or advice? Thanks!

You can use one of the couriers operating in ITaly, like TNT/Traco, or Dhl.

Not sure if DHL etc accepts alcohol for shipment, check their website. What I would do, assuming you are purchasing from a vineyard or a shop, is have the vineyard or shop arrange to send it to your Rome hotel. Pay by credit card so you can work with the credit card company in case it does not show up at your hotel. Of course also alert your Rome hotel that the wine is arriving and ask them to sign and hold it for you.

Remember that you will have to pay duty on anything over 1 litre (basically 1 bottle) when you arrive back into the US.

If it's the fifth Thursday on the lunar calendar, and you're wearing unmatched purple shoes.

Best wishes,

Why is it best to carry wine with you on your flight to the US, while having them shipped around Italy and Greece?
