SHIPPING WINE FROM FRANCE

I have seen Darling121's question about BRINGING wine into the U.S. as a 20 yo, but I want to know if it is feasible and economical to ship a case or two home. I had in mind such wines as Chateauneuf du Papes or Chassagne Montrachet. Would it be better if I simply purchased fine French wine from my local beverage shop? I am over twenty-one years of age. ZZ

Considering the present exchange rate (the dollar is in the toilet), you can purchase the wines for less in the US.
Most vintners will not ship to individuals in the United States as state law varies. Many will ship to an importer, if you can provide the license (and have permission from the importer) information.

Hi Z,

Having wine shipped home is expensive. You don't know how it will be treated.
Some states don't allow wine to be imported to private persons.
Some states require that the importer be licensed to ship to that state.

Bring home a few bottles in your checked luggage. You can buy styrofoam shipping containers.

I purchased a specific Beaujolais that I like in Beaujolais at the winemaker's house for around $10.50. My local boutique (non discount) wine merchant sells it for $11.50.

Just not worth it. Costco has a good CNDP for $32. You'll pay more than that there.

Thanks to all of you who replied. I believe, from your information and advice, that I had best forget shipping a case or two home and, instead, visit a local wine shop. ZZ
