Service on American Airlines
I was informed today that AA does not serve wine on their international flights to France. Does anyone know if this is correct? I wanted at least one glass of wine with my exciting airline dinner. Thank you.

I carry miniatures that I get from Walgreen's for a buck or two. And a little printed card with this:
Sec. 121.575 Alcoholic beverages.
(a) No person may drink any alcoholic beverage aboard an aircraft unless the certificate holder operating the aircraft has served that beverage to him.
My legal credentials are printed on the other side.

Whomever informed you of that was either 1) pulling your leg, or 2) is dumb as a post. Or perhaps you just misunderstood him. They do not serve free wine in coach. But they definitely serve it . . . . . .

Yup...just an indication of the contempt AA has, as well as most of the other US international carriers, for its passengers...most of the European airlines don't have to resort to such shenanigans...on Virgin Atlantic, you get free wine with dinner, you can have a beer and not get charged during a beverage service, every plane has the little screens on the seat back in front of you as compared to AA with its old 767 which don't have them...they've had plenty of time to add them.
Given my choice, I wouldn't fly an outfit like AA to Europe.

AA really needs to upgrade their service. Their business class(767) seats had to be the oldest I have ever sat in on my last trip to Paris. Horribly cracked leather filled with human detritus and bum fodder. The carpeting looked like the floor of a movie theater. I am actually sorry I have so many FF miles with them. I would rather sit in economy on Lufthansa, to tell you the truth. Which I what I am doing in the future unless I can get upgraded plane.

Jennifer: It's not that bad!
Truly! Their planes are full on most flights,,,something must be right.
Maybe things have changed a little, but you'll be fine. I know people who fly them all the time,,,and have no complaints.
They use to have more room in coach than any other(2 inches), their 777's had 2 seats on the sides (when no one else did),and now the 767 is a great aircraft.
(I'm sorry to hear otherwise from a previous poster, and will believe perhaps "a little " of it.!
I don't like the large 'electronic' box on the floor of most window seats which cuts down on foot room,,,but hey, you can't have everything!!!)Other carriers have this also.!

Just bring your own food with you for the flight, bring those $5 bills for wine, expect the fasten seatbelt sign to be on for the entire flight and the flight attendants will be congragrating in the galley and you will be fine. Oh, I forgot, bring your own videos because what they play is SH#T.
On my last flight with AA, they had a sign in the galley that said, No standing in the galley. Quite a change from British Airways that says, if you need anything, don't hesitate to pop into the galley.
If you need a flight attendant, go to the galley; that is where they congragrate.

I agree with copain. The last 3 times we've flown AA BC we've had broken seats! Flight attendents...were there any ??
The last flight my DH's seat would not stay in the upright position for landing..and mine would not recline.
I've just about given up on them, even though we've been original members of their FF program since it was initiated.

Jennifer...
Their international service is as bad as their domestic service...but the most important thing, of course, is that at least Trans Atlantic flights are not all that long comparatively and you will get there...it's just that if you fly some other airlines for Trans Atlantic flights such as Virgin Atlantic that you see the tremendous difference in attitude.
However, like everything else in life, it's a trade off...my ff credit card is with them and I have amassed lots of miles with them and I can't fly Virgin Atlantic within the USA (although they have a new service Virgin America on some routes) which means, for better or for worse, while nobody puts a gun to my head if I want the frequent flyer miles, I'm stuck with them so yes it is my choice to amass the miles and forego some of the creature comforts provided by other airlines which seem to care about their passengers.
But that's life, you can't have everything.

Please. Was that report on Flyertalk written by a shill?
And as far as their planes being full. Of course they are full. When you cut back on service that's what happens. Ya pack'em in. And their fleet age is one of the highest.

Tom is a retired SFPD 911 dispatcher. His goal in life is to see the world. I met the gentleman in WashDC as we were both connecting. Nothing but a class act. No, it's not made up.
He was a UAFF for years, switched over to AA and never looked back.
AA is probably, if not the best US base international airline. It also beats BA in F and Y classes for many different reasons. BA has it beat in J class. Other US based airlines may be a notch or 2 above in some areas but that's not what I'm talking about. Overall picture is what I'm talking about, pre, during and after service is what I need, and AA covers in pretty nicely more times than not. YMMV.
I know because I fly all these airlines on a regular basis.
