Hi BB,
>1. From Boston to Naples, looks impossible to fly direct given the airline cutback of flights, suggestions?<
Changing planes isn't exactly a trek through the Amazon.
Let the airline know about your father's condition. They will help.
>2. Hotel or Villa?
What's your budget?
>3. Mid to Late April 2009; ....
Late April to early May.
>4. What would be the most authentic amazing thing to do while I'm there.
Anything that you do will be authentic and amazing, even going to the Blue Grotto.
Dinner at the Palazzo Sasso would be quite a treat.

Guys & Girls,
I really can't begin to describe how helpful you all have been. Before I started researching this a week ago, I was clueless. Now this really beginning to take form and I could not have done it without your help. So here's what I have so far and tell me if it makes sense. I first listed the last thing we need to figure out.
LAST THING TO DO:
If you had 5-6 nights to spend in Positano on the Amalfi coast where would be the places you would eat....Dinner first no budget necessary....but I want good food and authentic. Money isn't an issue, but I don't want to pay just to sit at a nice table with a view. I want to get to know the area by the food and wine too...
1) Amalfi Coast - Staying in Positano (my father is going to be centrally located here and may make some of the side trips, but he wants to relax and enjoy good views, drinks, food and most importantly company. Bob the navigator, I'm looking into www.summerinitaly.com for villa rentals which I think we'll do. 2 bed 2 bath places. Any more help would be great.
2) Side trips for my gf and I and possibly dad. Pompeii, Sorrento, Ravello, Capri, Paestum
3) Flying from Boston to Rome, the directly on to naples, hiring a car to Amalfi coast. Back to Rome with a one or two night stay with some exploring in rome.
4) Dinner at Palazzo Sasso, I will do...Limoncello (spelling horrible I know), etc.

The people at summerinitaly speak very good English and are quite helpful---note the USA phone line. Tell Luca I sent you. Also, their web site has pages of very good tips for all things about that region. Do not forget that location within Positano will be a factor for walking---the town is vertical.

Here is a great trip report on the AC that may help. Also, some wonderful images to get you inspired. BTW, this is my son and his family. http://www.onelittleworld.com/campania_1.html
