I'm traveling to Frankfurt and Munich with my father in October and am having trouble finding a hotel room that has separate beds. All of the rooms have twin beds in the same bedframe. My father is older (72) and has a CPAP machine that he uses at night. He needs a little extra space for this so I'm looking for a hotel that has two separate beds. I realize the big chains do this (Hilton, Marriott) but would prefer to stay in something more local. Any suggestions for either city?

I've asked this question on another message board and they said to email hotels to see if they'll do this. I'm wondering if someone already knows of a hotel that will do this.

Hi. A little more info may be helpful and get more replies. Are you staying in Frankfurt or just passing thru and spending one night? Same for Munich. If you tell us how many nights in each place, what area of the cities you want to stay in, I think you'll get some help.

I'm pretty sure Hotel National and Hotel Excelsior had two separate beds in the rooms. I've never had a problem with this any place although I haven't been to Frankfurt and Munich when I shared a room with someone I wasn't sleeping with.

Are you asking for a twin room with 2 beds?

I started looking at my list of Frankfurt hotels and the first one shows 2 beds in a room.

Are two single beds OK? I'm thinking that's what you might most likely get when asking for a double room with separate beds?

The Hotel Uhland in Munich is a very nice boutique hotel. We stayed in their family room, or quad room, and it would work well for two adults. It's large and divided into two sleeping areas for privacy. Great location, breakfast included, free parking, free bikes to rent.

usually (not always but most of the time) those twin beds in one frame are actually adjustable -- either set up as two separate twins or one king sized. Can you give a link to one that says it is two beds that must be hooked together?

But if you look for a 'twin' room 90+% of the time it will be two separated beds.

Thanks all! I'm just starting to research and plan so I have no idea what part of the cities we're staying yet. I'm thinking 3-4 nights in Frankfurt and 3-4 nights in Munich. We're flying into Frankfurt and just doing day trips from there so somewhere that is close to one of the main train stations.

I don't see anywhere that it says they can't be unhooked, just many look to be in one frame.

Adrienne - that you for the links. What I'm seeing in most hotels is like the last link you included. It's 2 mattress but they are connected in a solid wooden frame. I'll check out the first two though. Thanks!

I was going to suggest the same hotels as adrienne. All good choices.

You might also like Alexander am Zoo. Very nice residential area, but still easy to reach public transportation.

If you search for a hotel at hrs.com, it will tell you how many of the double rooms in each hotel have separated beds. After you search for double rooms in your city, just click on each hotel and the room data will be listed at the bottom of the page that pops up. You can request separate beds as you reserve, if you do so on HRS. I use them frequently and have never had a problem. Regards, Gary

Movenpick Hotels typically have rooms with two separate beds. I've also had to search for such room types for two gentlemen travelling together and sharing the expense of a room.

When checking the hotel websites, check for Zweibettzimmer (2 bedded rooms) or getrennte Betten (separated beds) and not Doppelzimmer (which CAN be either a double bed or two twins in the same frame).
I often have this same problem, as I usually travel with (an equally cost-conscious) friend or colleage!
