I want to send a gift basket/food hamper to a relative in Edinburgh. Wondering if anybody has a company they can recommend. Thanks for any help.

Is it meant to be North American food? If so, I can't help you and I think you may find the prices prohibitive if you do find a company that will ship US or Canada to Scotland. There is probably one out there.

Have you tried amazon.co.uk or ordering hampers online from Sainsbury's or Fortnum and Mason ($$$) or Marks and Spencer or an Edinburgh specialty food store?

What are you trying to do?

Britain's laws about food imports aren't as draconian as Canada's (even Draco himself wouldn't have gone that far), but food parcels from outside Europe - if that's what you want to do - are very tricky to manage, and there really isn't a big food hamper culture outside Christmas.

Fortnum's hampers are extortionate and really disgracefully bad value for money. At Christmas, the Waitrose web site offers the best quality food at reasonable prices. Otherwise, the best value is probably John Lewis (http://www.johnlewis.com/Gifts/For+Her/Gift+Food_2c+Hampers+and+Wine/Hampers/1218/ProductType.aspx?SearchTerm=""hampers""&PPC=True&s ource=35530

Or try M&S (http://www.marksandspencer.com/gp/se...:hamper&page=1)

There are a number of specialised UK mail-order food companies (like smoked salmon merchants), and some non-Europeans (like those fruitcake companies that advertise in the New Yorker) that have cracked the logistics of mailing to Europe. Which is why it would help to havbe a better idewa of what you're after

Thanks for the suggestions. I'm trying to send a food basket from a retailer in/around Edinburgh to an address in Edinburgh.

Ideally I'm looking for an assortment of cheeses, crackers and fruit. My Uncle passed away and my Aunt has a lot of family in for the funeral, so I thought it might be nice to have some food available rather than sending a floral arrangement.

There are alot of companies here that have a wide range of gift baskets, doesn't seem to be the case over there from what I am finding.

Will keep looking, thanks.

I'm sorry for your loss and your aunt's. Do you know one of her friends you could contact for ideas?

Here are some places I found on the web, which sound nice based on brief descriptions. Often, if a place doesn't deliver gift baskets, they will recommend someone how does:

Valvona and Croila (0)1315566066

Demijohn (0)1312253265

A Crombie and Sons (0)1315567643

Good luck.

hope this helps.
the aformentioned Valvona & Corolla is also an excellent choice.
