Elaine and some others have (I think) the kind of "collected" personal notes ("journal" - - though perhaps not from one single trip) that they would probably be willing to send you.

Despite my various trips to Paris (1969, 1990, 1992, 1993, 1998, 1999, 2000) I have no such personal collection myself - - but the following has the kind of compiled savvy info that anyone here would be proud to have written:

http://www.nytimes.com/library/magaz...tra-paris.html

Best wishes,

Rex
Sorry, Charlie, I'd love to send you my numerous travel journals but they're going to be published by someone else.

Which brings up the question, are you PAYING for submissions or looking for freebies? If the latter, I'd be very careful because there are a number of credentialed freelance writers on this site who will be after you in a second. We DO have laws here in the USA regarding the use of published material, and in fact they are incredibly detailed laws - you may not want to know about them, but you should have an attorney who does.

I did a double take when I saw his question, but then realized he didn'y really mean journal of writings.

I'd like to hazard 3 guesses here.
1. English is not the first poster's first language.
2. He simply means trip reports -- no nefarious intent. [see #1]
3. And that again we have been rude to someone who has the courage to post in a language that isn't their first.

I'm not sure if it's naivete, cultural/language differences, or something more suspect, but I sent my notes once to Charlie at his email request and received back a response that made me a bit uncomfortable.

Charlie: If I misjudged your post, my apologies. Because of my work, I am in the habit of reading publishers' (some of them nefarious) requests for travel journals and other writing, and I took this as such a request. I am also in the habit, though my work, of defending writers' needs to be well paid for their hard work. How about I send you my list of favorite restaurants in Paris? If you were simply looking for information on Paris, I'll include a sincere apology.

I'm going to step in and play translator here.

The OP, Charlie Jeong, is Korean; sfowler is right on the money on all counts. All he's looking for is any travel journals that anyone on this board has been willing to share with others. The use of the term "private diary" should not be misinterpreted as sinister. He simply means personal journal. In an email to me, he said he enjoys both travel and reading about other people's travel experiences, a sentiment I think we all share--and one few of us could articulate in Korean. If you have a link to some of your own travel writing, you might want to post it here.

Thanks.
