Seine

The last time I visited Paris, we drove past a quaint street along the banks of Seine lined with stalls that were selling old books, picture postcards etc. Seemed like a great place to stroll. Can anybody give me more info, the street name, how to get there, where to start the walk etc.

The streets on both sides of the Seine, in the general vicinity of Notre Dame, are lined with the classic Parisian bookstalls.

I think you are after the Quai St-Michel on the left bank of the Seine opposite Notre Dame.

There are a number of pet stores on the right bank of the Seine. There is a bird and flower market on the left bank of the Seine.

Birdsellers, thanks for the correction: on the Ile de la Cite rather than the left bank . . . although, technically, the Ile de la Cite is left of one branch of the Seine, and right of another.

Another, Quai de la Mégisserie, fronting the Seine just east of the Louvre, for a remarkable market embracing birds, tropical fish, monkeys and heaven whows what else is what you are looking for. I almost bought a pup myself.

My husband and I actually broke down and bought one of those adorable puppies on a trip to Paris last summer. What a mistake!
The chef at our hotel charged us 50 euros just to skin and dress the thing. Not only that but the meat itself was dry and chewy, never again!
