That's why the Fodor's Gods implemented the triangle.
If saves a lot of time when you understand that neither your nor your opponent's view on witty vs. rude, thin vs. thick skinned, etc. has any relevance at all here.

OTOH, I sometimes think that some poor souls get quite a kick from discussing for days and days why this or that post was inacceptable or not.
Probably just a mild form of egocentricity. Rather harmless little Kindergarten games, I would say.

In real life, these little quarrels are somewhat more in the league of teenagers fighting over whether Justin Bieber is hot or not, but if it helps also grown men and women to get thru the day, so be it.

Don't forget drugs and alcohol, Cowboy.

Many people take drugs or drink whilst posting here and get carried away.

One well-known poster is an advocate for marijuana, and look at his antagonistic posts.

He had the nerve to tell St. Cirq, who owns a house in France, that she didn't know how to speak French properly.

I hate instigators who point fingers at others.

You are one of the biggest instigators in the history of this forum.>

You are mixing up the Lounge and the Europe forum. And I am talking about folks being rude to new posters - before taking me to the wood shed read what I posted - I am only talking about treatment of new posters who are driven away by rudeness. Of course Fodorgarchs sometimes get hot with each other - but I am not talking about that and if you read what I post you would or could or should or would realize that!

Who cares if it is more active than it was before or not? If you get your questions answered what more do you expect?

Pal - I still have no idea what a Fodorgarch is but you seem fond of using the term.

Oh my gosh! I've been taking advice from a drunk and thinking how knowledgeable you are! LOL

Oligarchy (from Greek ὀλιγαρχία (oligarkhía); from ὀλίγος (olígos), meaning "few", and ἄρχω (arkho), meaning "to rule or to command")[1][2][3] is a form of power structure in which power effectively rests with a small number of people.

From Wiki and thus Fodorgarch!

The editors are the only people with power here. So I guess by Fodorgarchs you mean the editors. I've never noticed the editors getting hot with each other while I have noticed a few posters going at it.

And so we see that the petty bickering and neurotic social positioning spreads from its noxious confines in the Lounge to Europe, although both participants can continue the same nonsense there --- and I wish they would!

Oh, Thin, I would never want to be responsible for making you choke!

I hope you're OK!

I honestly think people are travelling less because of the weak economy, college costs, low interest rates on CDs, and retirement fears.<<<

Add in the sky high air fares this year and it makes for less travel. There has only been one good sale this year. Hoping some pop up soon for late summer/fall.

Please!

If I can survive waking up in the gutters of Jaipur after all-night drinking binges, choking on some Antinori will not harm me.

Thin, I love the gutters of Jaipur. My travel partner got reprimanded for smoking a cigarette in one of them while we were trying to rinse my feet of the grit of the streets of the city - it seemed a bit counterintuitive. Love that city, though we never did find any decent wine , and certainly not Antinori. Have you had Indian wine? I thought I'd die, but I drank it (and then went to the hotel bar and ordered a couple of martinis, which I almost never drink, but it worked to cut the killer moments that India throws you).

Drink up, love.

I hereby nominate StCirq for the Légion d'honneur.
I too try to avoid the postings of said gentleman who is always irritating and sometimes actually misleading.
I can't say that I have seen anything to reduce anyone to tears.
On the contrary. people can be very patient as in "I'm going to London next week. What should I see?"
The roughest answer I have seen is advice to go the library and borrow a travel book". The usual is, "Tell us what interests you and we will be better able to help you.

Loved Jaipur. Have been twice.

Stayed at the Rambaugh Palace and the Sheraton Executive Wing.

I wear a little 22K gold elephant around my neck that I bought in Jaipur. I never take it off.

I rode an elephant up to the Amber Fort.

I find this forum invaluable when people who know things about travel answer the questions asked. It is unbeatable for that. Long may it continue.

I also love it when the questions lead to good natured side issues, ruminations, and revelations, and would like to see more of that.

Probably due to the economy, rising fuel prices, maybe environmental concerns, people pop across the Atlantic less frequently. Maybe, too, some people who used to hang out here are spending their screen time at FB or otherwise elsewhere.

A little irritation here and there is stimulating. When I find someone consistently annoying I skip over his or her comments.

My semi-agreement with Pal is in posters' natural tendency to crave the last word on an issue, and the counterproductive squabbles that break out within 7-9 posts of the top.

I stayed at the Royal Palace on an island in the lake at Jaipur - of course at U S Government expense! No slumming it for me at a Sheraton! YOLO!
