Secure Parking in Florence?

We will be stopping in Florence for a day, but not staying there. Is it safe to park and leave luggage in the car ANYWHERE?

Would like to hear about safe places to park a rental car without having to secure luggage elsewhere.

Any ideas?

I had the same question. All the talk about not leaving luggage in a car makes me nervous. How can we do the musuems and see Florence without having to check luggage some place? Is there a secure parking garage or a hotel with secure parking?

I would look for a parking garage (not a lot). When I was there two weeks ago, I went to a lot two blocks from the train station. Very small, and someone was on duty 24 hours a day. The men working were very helpful. I had to leave my keys with them so they could move the car around (it was a VERY small garage!), and I felt safe doing so. E-mail me if you want the address (although I'm sure there are others equally good).

Deborah

Know where you want to go in Florence and look for a blue "P" (for parking) in that area. They are usually small, enclosed lots where you need to leave the key. Ask how late they stay open as ours near The Academie was only open until 8 pm. We drove around quite a bit and there seemed to be quite a few. I'll check to see if I still have the map and post some adresses here later.

Thanks to both of you for the help. I suppose if there is an attendant on duty, the luggage will be safe in the trunk for a few hours. Unfortunately, we only have time to hit a couple of the museums (with advance reservations) and the Duomo, so we won't be in the city long.
