Second hand book stores

Can someone tell me the names of some really good seacond hand book stores in London. I will be visiting in March and am particularly looking for Enid Blyton's and Biggles. May go to cambrige and oxford as well, so names there would be great! Any websites etc..

Thanks

Loads of secondhand bookshops in London (the most famous - and overrated - being north of Trafalgar Square on Charing Cross Road); in Bloomsbury (eg around the British Museum). Likewise in Oxford (start at Thornton's on Broad Street - http://www.demon.co.uk/thorntons/) You may find what you need by randomly looking in these general bookshops, but if you are a serious collector, you may need a proper specialist.

In which case asking the PBFA (http://www.pbfa.org/) or The Children's Bookshop in Hay on Wye (the town of secondhand bookshops out near the Welsh Border) (http://www.childrensbookshop.com/ may be a good idea.

By the way, sellers of NEW books at: http://www.booksellers.org.uk/about/index.cfm?id=2. Ask one of them and they'll probably point you in the right direction.

Julian
London

There's a pretty comprehensive list of London bookstores, including second-hand bookstores (complete with addresses, telephone numbers, and descriptions of the kind of books the store carries) at http://www.geocities.com/Athens/4824/uk-lond.htm. I have no idea how accurate the information on the list is (it says it was just updated last month), but you might get some useful information from it.

SV, Foyles is the largest of the Charing Cross bookstores. They have used, out of print, and new books.
http://www.foyles.co.uk/

Try www.abebooks.co.uk to see who's got the kind of books you're interested in

There's a fantastic second-hand book market under Waterloo Bridge at weekends.

While Foyles are the biggest on their road, the biggest for new books in London is Waterstone?s at Malet Street and Torrington Place, near Goodge Street tube station. The market under Waterloo Bridge is good, but bigger, cheaper and rougher is the Friday and Saturday market at Greenwich, 15 minutes from London Bridge station by train. Outside London Rochester boasts England?s largest second hand bookshop: it is an hour by train from Victoria, and has a page at www.bagginsbooks.co.uk/. Further again is Hay on Wye.

Welcome to London

Ben Haines
