Secessionist art in Munich?
On my recent trip to Vienna I was introduced to the Secessionist Art movement and fell in love. I'm going to both Hamburg and Munich soon and I know that Munich also had a Secessionist movement. I'm having a hard time finding which museums have some in their collections. Does anyone know which museums I should visit? Any architecture still standing that I might want to see? Thank you so much.

Gee, you just found out the secret ;-).
Start here:

and look around, everyone of them has his own street name.
Don't you have a Kandinsky in your room, I thought that was the norm. ;-)

It looks like Franz von Stuck is another artist I'll become acquainted with. In Vienna, Igor Shiele caught my fancy so the Leopold Museum was a delight. I'll continue my quest and thanks for the tip. I've never been a student of art, but frequent museums because I love the beauty of it all. I guess at this stage of my life I finally have the time to commit some effort into learning more about the artists and their times. As for Kandinsky, I hate to disappoint but I guess I'm not the norm

The Lenbachhaus has a wonderful collection of the work of Kandinsky and the Blauer Reiter artists, but it appears to be closed for renovation.

The major works of the Lenbachhaus collection are on display in a temporary exhibition at Museum Frieder Burda in Baden-Baden until Nov 8, 2009.

In Munich, Neue Pinakothek has an excellent collection of classical modern art. I'm sure you will find something that interests you there. The same applies to the Kunsthalle in Hamburg.

Rats! I won't be anywhere near Baden-Baden. We'll be in Hamburg for three days, take the ICE to Munich and then be in Munich for another three days. I won't have much time to travel outside either city but might, if I plan it properly, be able to squeeze in Neuschwanstein. Weather and the pace we set will dictate some choices.
The Pinakothek Der Moderne seems to have some interesting exhibits. The Kunsthalle Der Hypo-Kulturestiftung starts a Muncha exhibit starting October 9th. I went to the Muncha Museum in Prague and discovered he was a pretty interesting person and I love the art. Of course the Villa Stuck (mentioned by logos999) is tops on the list. I think I'm getting somewhere thanks to all of you.

It's this timeless beauty that looks like it could have been done yesterday or one hundered years ago. Enjoy. I'm feeling just the same when I see those Bauhaus designs. The chair, the lamp... A totally different thing, but I'd guess it would be equally interesting to you, put that on you list the next time you're in Germany.
