just a comment - since you have to go to the Isle and then come back off it - you don't need to do EITHER Glenfinnan or Eilean Donan as day trips from Skye.
You'll pass one on your way from Ft William to Mallaig and the other after crossing the Skye bridge leaving the Isle.
IMHO it is a much more efficient use of your time on Skye ON Skye.

Oh no! Your first plan was MUCH better. Really.
If you really MUST stay on Skye, then, yes, your plan of a day trip to Arisiag and Glenfinnan will work.
Skye's not really big enough to worry about exactly where you should stay. Just pick somewhere you like the look of and go for it.
(I'd stay at Staffin)

I agree - your first plan was better. My last comment was based on you saying you now want to stay on Skye. If you do decide to book a place on Skye - then no, you don't need to plan day trips off the island for Glenfinnan and Eilean Donan. Just see them enroute to/from Skye.
But I agree w/ Sheila, your first plan to stay on the mainland was better. And as we have been trying to tell you - going to Skye for the day is not like a trek across the continent. You can see quite a lot of Skye in one day - especially if you get on an early ferry. Driving the Trotternish will not preclude you from seein other things on the Isle.

Sheila, why would you choose Staffin, I'm curious?
We are staying on Skye for 4 nights next summer, and I'm beginning to look at the possibilities. The fact that we have 7 in our party limits the places we can stay - especially as two of those insist on being singles. The others can be two triples, or a triple and two doubles. That combo in one place is becoming hard to find for something less than £35 pppn. Top that off with my desire for a 'neat' place, like the converted mill we got in Orkney, and I'm at a loss
We plan on spending the four days in scenic bliss!

I guess it's just because I like it. To stay in a cottage. For a week.

To do 4 nights in a hotel, I'd stay at the Sligachan, or, if money was no object, the Eilean Iarmain.
B&Bs I don't do, so....
I just searched on Google, and look what I found..
