Scotland Need Cell Phone Or Card

I will be traveling in Scotland in September. I need to be able to call home and check on my elderly mother. I have read that taking a cell phone along is a good idea. Will I need a special converter in order to keep phone charged? Is it convenient to use a phone card there? Also, where can purchase a necessary converter. Plan on staying in B & B's and Country Inns while there. Thank you for your help.

Call your cell phone a 'MOBILE' when over here, it'll be easier for you!

PS.. the fun I had when trying to hire a mobile phone when in the states. We got there eventually. Seeing as it was a shop only HIRING and dealing with mobiles (CELLPHONES!!), you would have thought he'd have put two and two together.... haha

Also, in addition to what I posted, you will need to check that your phone/network is compatible in Scotland. We found ours didnt work in USA and had to hire once in states or go without.

Only very high end cel phone (yes, do say "mobile" in the UK) will work over there. You can't just tave your ATT or Verizon system phone and expect it to work You have a couple of very good options tho'.

Any post office and most news agents will sell you inexpensive pre-paid calling cards that work in most pay hones. The different companies vary but average between 6 and 10 cents a minute to the States.

Or you can rent a phone with your rental car - more expensive but really convenient.
