Scotland lovers, what other places evoke the same passion in you ?

This question is for those who are helplessly in love with Scotland. I really want to know what other countries/places in Europe you have been can make you just as excited as Scotland. Any comments will be greatly appreciated. Your inputs can help me decide where our family will go for our future trips and hopefully get over Scotland. Ever since my October trip to Scotland, I could not find other places interesting any more. I am hoping to gain insights from those of you who love Scotland and understand how I feel. Thanks in advance.

Yes, I have been 3 times and I love Italy very much. I always love art but in Scotland I discover nature. Scotland is wild and yet mysteriously romantic.

I totally understand your dilemma - I love London, Paris, parts of Italy, much of England and Wales, other places -- but none of them draw me like Scotland does.

You've caught the bug and the only cure is to go back again -- try June next time when it is daylight until 11PM. Walking on a deserted white sand beach in NW Scotland in the midnight twilight w/ the mountains in the background.

I would put Iceland up there on the top. It is exciting and the countryside couldn't be any wilder. It is really an unusual place.

How about New Zealand? Or Croatia?

I've been to New Zealand, Croatia, France, Italy and Wales as well as many other beautiful places. I've enjoyed them all and hope to return, but Scotland remains the only place that has completely my heart.

Switzerland comes to mind. While not remote like Scotland, it is beautiful and easy to travel around via mass transit.

Outside of Europe, we love the Oregon Coast in the USA - beautiful, well preserved, uncrowded.

Thank you all for your responses. I value your inputs and will look into the places you suggested. Iceland, Norway and Croatia never came across my mind and I will definitely do some research. Janisj, thank you for prescribing the remedy for my heartache. I did catch the bug and do not know how many trips to Scotland can cure my dilemma. But I am going to try and hopefully I can move on to other beautiful places that are worth exploring as well. Thank you every one for helping.

Ah yes, I also would recommend Iceland, especially once you move away from Reykjavik proper (cute as it is). And the suggestion for the Pacific NW in the USA also is a good one. Of course the culture isn't a European one(!), but in some ways the coast holds some of the same wild magic as parts of Scotland...
