Schillingsfurst - worth a visit?
While researching Rothenburg ob der Tauber, I came across a listing for Schillingsfurst Castle and the Falconry. Has anyone visited? I'm wondering if it is worth a few hours side trip as my husband loves falcons and other birds of prey. We will be in Rothenburg for two nights.
Thank you!

I have never been there (nor heard of it!), but it does look enticing AND is very nearby, so why not?
Tours of the castle are at 10 am/12noon/2 pm and 4 pm daily.
Falcon show at 11 am and 3 pm daily. Cost E7 for castle tour and show combined (children E4).
You can check out the falconry website (german only) at

We actually went there! We found it by accident and with the help of the small tourist office ended up staying in a great B&B in Schillngsfurst. We took the tour of the Castle, but due to rain, the Falconry show was cancelled. When we took the tour, there was only one other couple so we were able to ask lots of questions. There are lots of better castles out there, but it's close and IMO worth it.
Here's a link to my trip report on a different web site about our visit to the area.

We were there last week and it was great. Plan to eat at a lovely cafe just outside the entrance to the castle (beautiful view and tasty food), then enjoy the bird show and castle tour. One warning: the bird show and castle tour are all in German, but we enjoyed it thoroughly even though we don't speak German. The bird show speaks for itself, and the guided tour provides an English written version of what you are seeing. We had a wonderful time at Schillingsfurst!
