Schengen airport travel question
Hello!
So I have a question about flying from one non-Schengen country into a Schengen country and then to another non-Schengen country. To be more specific, I'm a U.S. citizen who has spent 89 days in the Schengen zone, with my 180 days resetting next month. I'm currently in a non-Schengen country (Romania) but want to fly to Morocco by way of the Barcelona or Madrid airport. (In case it matters for any reason, I'm unsure whether I would be flying with the same airlines for both individual flights but my guess is probably not.) My question is, is it ok to do this - book a flight from Romania to Spain and then from Spain to Morocco - as long as I don't leave the airport? Or do I need some sort of document or whatnot? Many thanks.

There is no reason for you to go through immigration, unless of course you have to collect and recheck any luggage. If it is checked through then you just stay airside and transfer without entering Spain.

Ah yes, whoops, I left that bit out - I will have one piece of checked luggage, which I'll have to collect and recheck I assume. But I shouldn't have a problem going through immigration, right?

Book the whole trip as a single itinerary, Romania to Morocco, and then your luggage can be checked through to the final destination. If you have two separate itineraries, you'll have to go through immigration.

Just bumping this up because I'm still a little confused. In regards to booking a single itinerary, there are no direct flights from Romania to Morocco (in March at least) and it's much cheaper to book two separate flights, and from Spain. I will have one checked bag and will be flying different airlines from Romania to Spain and Spain to Morocco. So would I still be ok? Thanks for the help so far, I'm just generally confused about Schengen travel and the U.S. embassy in Romania hasn't been much of a help.
