Scandinavia with Rick Steves

We have booked our June 09 trip with Rick! Now...has anyone taken this tour with his company this year? We want to be sure to 'do' the Norway in a Nutshell trip and their reps told me that they did not think his tour covered that area (covered by NIN).My question...did you see enough of the fjords or should we plan to spend extra days in Bergen (where tour ends) and do NIN and see other fjords? Anxious for your replies as we want to book flights on Icelandair before rates increase. Thanks.

Thank you for your response and yes, I know I posted another Rick Steves question. However, my previous question was about lodging on that particular trip. Now that we have booked with Rick, my question is specifically about the Norway in a Nutshell tour area. It seems their brochure does not include that area specifically, nor does the RS representative know if that area is covered. Very vague. I'm stuck and had hoped someone on this site might have traveled with this tour. Sorry if I have annoyed anyone with my questions. In the past I have found these sites to be most helpful and friendly!

Hi teacup,, did you post this on the Rick Steves site?
Did you read the tourmember feedback, that usaully really fills in some blanks.

Good luck.

PS I always think it is a good idea to book a few extra days before and after a tour. The tours never cover enough ,, they are meant as tasters only. In Paris we did things like "see the Eiffel Tour" but tour did not include going up Tower. I phoned tour department and was luckier then you I guess as they were able to tell me exactly what was included as a site, and what was just looked at.
Maybe phone again and ask very directly for specific infor and if person you are speaking to doesn't know as for them to give you to someone who does. Many people in the RS office have taken various tours, and on our tour we had an office person filling in as assistant guide( he was very good) so if you talk to right person you will get more info.

If the trip does not include Norway in a Nutshell you can do this easily on your own. You can buy the NIN ticket at the train station.

We have taken the NIN trip 2 times, once from Bergen to Oslo and once from Oslo to Bergen.

You can take the NIN tour and stay overnight in Bergen and return to Oslo via train the next day.

Think you can do the NIN going from Oslo and returning to Oslo the same day. I don't think I would like doing that but you could check it out. You could probably do the same out of Bergen.

We took only a few essentials with us and left our luggage at the hotel in Oslo when we went on the NIN tour.
