SARDINIA - La Maddalena or Stintino?
We'll be in Sardina for 5 nights (4 full days) in August. We found a nice place in Stintino (near La Pelosa beach), we also found a nice place with availability in La Maddalena... We're interested in beach and boat excursions (which we could do from either location). We fly in and out of Olbia and we will have a car. Anyone recommend one location over the other for a 5 night stay? Thanks!!

Stintino is most famous for its beautiful sandy beaches with shallow water, although there are also rocky coves and pebbly beaches. La Maddalena-Caprera is most famous for its rocky coves and granite formations from which you can jump straight into the water (and for the Garibaldi connection), although it also has a couple of beaches. I haven't been to the Asinara (the island and national park off Stintino), but the Maddalena archipelago with its many islands (and the Lavezzi archipelago across the strait of Bonifacio) is boating paradise and I struggle to imagine any place better than that.
I'd say, look at pictures and maps and pick what appeals to you the most.

There will be hordes of people in both places in August. Bear in mind you have to book and pay for admission to La Pelosa beach. This is the website

I visited early in the morning one May many years ago and the idea that 1500 people can be squashed in there is alarming to me.
Also, you can't put a beach towel or anything else directly on the beach if the sand is likely to get stuck to it. You need a plastic mat or something similar.

Just went in late May (so it was FAR less crowded) and stayed in Santa Teresa Gallura and Costa Paradiso. Big fans of both places. We rented boats in both places - from STG we were able to do the La Madd archipelago as well as dock at La Madd for some wandering and lunch. If you have someone in your group comfortable driving a boat, this was great fun! We also had a car and did day trips to Castelsardo (fun surf town where we rented SUP's) and Siddura Winery. We really wanted to do a day trip to Bonafacio as well (super easy from STG) but ran out of time. We loved it and are going back in October
