For my 10 day trip to Italy, I wore a pair of black Rockports. I wore them on my feet. Didn't have to pack them. I packed an extra pair in my suitcase but they never came out of the suitcase on my trip. I would never wear a pair of sandals to dinner here in San Francisco, so certainly wouldn't think of doing so in Rome.

Shelly:

I should have added that my wife brought a pair black Rockport sandals that were perfectly fine for going out to dinner anywhere. But, that's not the same as men wearing sandals.

XX,
if he presents us with size 16+ feet, I only hope he has the skills to play some basketball.
Like others with piedi grande !
Maybe then we could afford to buy him those boats, disguised as shoes! :0

Yea, have him wear the sandals. Then he will look like all the other American dorks touring Europe! Please don't let him forget his cool Texas U. baseball cap that says "hook 'em Horns", oh and white socks are a must with the sandals.Especially for those hip "open toed" jobs. Will you be wearing your way cool tennies and pedal pushers?

Sounds like you can wear sandals to a nice restaurant. You'll look out of place, but then ask yourself if you really care what others think.

It won't insult anyone to wear sandals. And, no you won't change anyone's attitudes towards tourists regardless of how you act or behave. So do what you want, and enjoy your trip!
