San Sebastian Cider House / Sidrería

Hello well-traveled folks of Fodor's,

I'm taking a group of 18 people to San Sebastian. Almost everything is organised except for a possible trip to a cider house in the vicinity. I'd like to get some feedback on people's experience in visiting such a place.

1. Is it worth it? (Yes,I know this is a crap question but I'm under pressure to offer the best itinerary possible)

2. Which ones would you recommend in the beg of May (since some close as the end of April)?

3. Can we go earlier or does it really start at 9?

Thanks for your feedback! Much appreciated.

Go to Astigarraga just outside San Sebastián, this small town is the cider house capital of the world and there are several places that stay open also out of season. Very well worth it: http://www.euskoguide.com/food-drink...a-cider-house/

Absolutely

Any will do...there are dozens and dozens, but those in Astigarraga (close to SS and well linked by public transport) are the most popular ones.

3. Can we go earlier or does it really start at 9?

...and 9 is still early...

Thanks to Mikelg, I have a perfect itinerary in every other way. He's organised our pick-up from Bilbao and four days of intensive touring of his lovely area.

I'm just being terribly indecisive about the sidreria.

Thanks Mikelg!

It is a fun experience and different for most Americans and a wonderful group activity

we found one in the hills outside of Donostia that was open for lunch. Do not recall the name.

Two popular ones are Petritegi and Gartziategi. Alorrenea and Lizeaga are also good options, at a short drive from San Sebastian.
