Salzburg/Vienna in December
Much confusion!
We are going to be in Frankfurt in early December (business trip) and have an extended weekend at the end of it. Friday morning (or Thursday night) to Sunday afternoon.
We were thinking of going to Paris, but have had to re-think, because earlier on, Thursday was included and 3 and a half days in Paris seemed worthwile. Now, however, Thursday must be spent in Frankfurt (horrible business reasons!) and we are reconsidering Paris altogether.
Plan B is Vienna (flight options, unfortunately - best connection to fly out of, for us).
Questions are:
1) Is this worth it (in december)?
2) Should we do a day in Salzburg and and the other in Vienna?
3) Should we still go to Paris
Please help with your views.
thanks,
Ahmed

I would fly to Vienna and spend all of the limited time you have there.
December is one of the nicest times of the year to visit.
Something for everyone there- historic sights, museums, music.
A visit to Palace Schonbrunn and the Hofburg are must sees.
Vienna is relatively compact with many things to do in the center of the city ( Innenstadt)
Enjoy!

My vote would be for Salzburg too - it is so much more beautiful than Vienna. Western Austria is incredibly lovely, witht he green hills and lakes and mountains. Add to that the beautiful buildings of Salzburg, and you've got a wonderful vacation.

I would stick with either Vienna or Salzburg but not try to do both. Both cities have thier charms. I prefer Vienna because it has more options and isn't choked with tourists. I like the Christmas markets of Vienna much more than Salzburg. But you would love both.

Vienna looks gorgeous in the snow, and as someone has already pointed out, has lots of indoor options if it's very cold.
Salzburg is pretty, but Vienna has more impressive architecture, more Christmas markets and a lot more to see. And for me the sight of the Hofburg or Stephansdom looming through snow and fog beats the prettiness of Salzburg any day!

I am faced with a similar decision, but I think I am going to Salzburg. The following website helped me make the decision: www.salzburg.info click on the flag for english.
