Salzburg Hotel Recommendations
We’re expecting lots of snow on the ground in Salzburg in mid-January. We’re hoping anyway! For ease of getting around, we’d like our hotel to be conveniently situated near the train station. We’d love to walk and explore the city, too. Can you recommend a convenient place to stay.?

Hi mangobutter,
This may be a stupid question -- but you do know that the train station is about a 20-minute walk from the old town, right? So you mean you want to be close ro the station for excursions out of the city? I think I'd rather be in the center of town for dinners and for sight-seeing.... then catch a bus to the station for excursions out.
I'm staying in Salzburg in Sep with my nephew and his girlfriend, and I chose the Arthotel Blaue Gans, largely for its location.
Have fun as you plan!

Thank you!
Thank you for your suggestion.
Originally, when considering the possibility of lots of snow - or ice - on the ground, we wanted our arrival and departure by train to be convenient. However, I do see the advantage of being in town for our walks!
I will research your hotel!

Which begs the question, does Salzburg get much snow?
I've only been in December (twice), and we had rain, not snow. It seems overcast days are almost a given.
I was curious so I just looked at snow averages for Salzburg in January - which per the following, the highest average 31-day accumulation is 3.5 inches on January 19.

Hi again,
Well there are taxis & busses to help with the transport to the train station for your excursions. I stayed in Salzburg in Jan 2002 and stayed at the Sacher (got a great deal for my birthday). I took a few excursions out, and I remember enjoying the walk back into town along the river.
