Sailing in Scotland

Can anyone recommend a good outfit for sailing in Scotland? This is another question for my relative who plans to get married in Scotland in the fall of 2004. They would like to help sail the boat, not sail it alone. Any location is fine.

You might want to try www.sailscotland.co.uk who can provide information on all types of sailing (inland and coastal) in God's country. For a personal recommendation you could try www.skye-sail.co.uk based in Portree on the Isle of Skye. As a complete novice, I sailed with them for a week in June this year and had a tremendous time. Their yacht, a 40ft ketch "Providence of Portree" is based in Portree on the Isle of Skye, has four guest berths and is very comfortable. Kevin and Pam Simister, skipper and mate, are marvellous hosts with a wealth of knowledge about the area, make you totally at home, and inspire complete confidence.

Hi April,

How much experience does/do your relative(s) have sailing?

A friend of mine circumnavigated Scotland (took him 3 years).

Thanks very much, sgiannach. I will pass along that information.

I think their experience is limited, ira, but they love the sea. They are thinking of just a day's outing though!

They are also interested in sailing in Ireland, by the way.
