Safety issues- Belfast in Sept.

We have tickets to arrive in Belfast in mid-Sept. then drive with friends to Donegal.
Am I crazy to even consider this or is the situation the same as the Oklahoma bombing in the US not really causing safety issues elsewhere here?
My husband and I landed in Belfast in late July and spent 3 days on the Antrim Coast. I thought Northern Ireland was beautiful and we look forward to returning next year. The Giants Causeway was unbelieveable! Although we were there before the most recent problem in Omaugh, we did not encounter any signs of trouble at all. From Northern Ireland we drove to Co. Donegal so we may have taken a similar route to yours. If you are interested in accommodations or restaurant ideas, please feel free to e-mail me.

Barbara

The dreadful bombing a week or so ago in Omagh has resulted in condemnation from even the terrorists groups there. One of the most militant, the INLA, actually called a ceasefire just after the Omagh bombing. This awful episode may actually return peace to Northern Ireland quicker than the politicians ever could.

Northern Ireland is such a beautiful place to visit and you musn't let recent episodes put you off. The people are so damn friendly they make it worthwhile returning (which I will be doing on 18th September).

Thinking about it, is there *anywhere* 100% safe these days?

Bill

Barbara:
Don't think twice about it!! I have been to Belfast 4 times, before and during the cease-fire. It would be a shame for you to miss Northern Ireland! I stay in Belfast and I won't lie and tell you that I have never seen soldiers, etc... but it's very matter of fact.
Quite frankly, I have always felt safer there than in areas of Philadelphia and I live in Philly!! I am assuming that you arrive at Aldergrove airport. If you have to get a taxi into town, it will probably cost about 7 pounds.
I love the city centre! It's great fun walking around there!! Donegal is great fun, too! Next time, you should try to go during the July bank holiday!
What mayhem!! Some of my favorite stories are from the Folk Festival!!! Enjoy!
Have a wonderful trip and let me know what you thought of it!!Please.
