Safety in Greece?
My friend and I will be in Greece this July (Athens, Santorini and Mykonos). It is just the two of us and we are in our mid-twenties. Do we have anything to worry about in terms of safety? We are street smart and sensible, but I just wanted to know the level of crime/danger present there. Any info would be great!
Thanks!

When I was in Athens a couple yrs. ago (as a 20 yr old), I felt safe enough, walking around with my boyfriend at night, through Plaka, and around near our hotel (which was outside of Athens). I can't remember ever feeling unsafe. I know there are a lot of gypsies around that can be a crime problem (and I'm sure there are others too that contribute to this problem), but of course you have that anywhere. I think as long as your friend and you stick together, stay aware of people around you, and don't put yourself in questionable places at night, you'll be fine. I'd say those guidelines would probably hold true no matter where you are. Also, you could look in a travel book to find out where the seedier areas of a city are, and avoid those places. Good luck!

I've always felt perfectly safe in Greece. You need to treat Athens like any other large city and beware of pickpockets in crowded areas, etc, but I don't think there are specific problems nor is it any worse than any other big city. You are unlikely to encounter any problems in the islands.

Greece has one of the lowest crime rates in Europe but as others said I would be aware for pickpockets and watch your drinks if you are in clubs. Sadly most of the crime that happens in the islands is perpetrated by other tourists.
