S. Margherita / Venice?

Need advice - travel arrangements got cut short and have to either stay 1 night in S. Margherita and 2 in Venice, or vice versa? Any suggestions 1 way or another? Never been to either........thanks.

Kim--These are two distinct regions with their own character, but you already know that. Venice is a must for at least two nights, if you must choose in the fashion you have laid out. Even at two nights in Venice, you will just scratch the surface and make you want to return. Santa Marghuerita is more of a region which could fill several days of exploring, but I would opt for the time in Venice. When will you be there? Have fun--Paul

Try the Continental in SML We just got back and loved it there. Also the Lauren (which is a Best Western) looked nice. We stayed at the Metropole in Venice two years ago and loved it.

One night in SML does not give you time to do anything. I'd opt for two nights in Venice.

We recently spent four nights in SML and wished we had planned to stay an additional night or two. There's lots to explore as well as just relax and enjoy the beautiful surroundings.

We stayed at the Hotel Laurin as a last minute decision because we did not care for our original choice. Luckily, we were able to get two beautiful rooms with terraces over-looking the harbor. No doubt about it, we would stay there again.

Can't comment on Venice - that will be our destination next trip.

Dear Kim,

I would spend 3 nights in Venice and save the Riviera for another time.

One night is not enough anywhere, unless of course you don't like where you are.

Both places are special - but Venice is magical !

Have Fun

Nancy

I will be vacationing in SML in November and am still trying to decide between the Laurin, Metropole, and Elena. I heard they are all under the same management. Any feedback from recent stays there? Mari, what was the name of the hotel you did not like?

Planning a trip to the Italian Riviera in the late fall. Would like hotel suggestions for SML area, please. Positive and negative aspects of hotels will be appreciated.

This question of hotels in SML crops up every month--that is what the search function is all about. For the record, if you want 4 star hotels then the Continental is the first choice and the Laurin is second. For 3 star, the Jolanda is hard to beat, and for even less the Albergo Fasce is good value.

Thanks, BOB THE NAVIGATOR, for your information.

Yes, I did do a search and got some great help.

I guess that my comment to you would be that if people don't ask questions (yes, even repeats) and people don't offer answers (yes, maybe for the umpteenth time) then all would stop and it would simply be a never-changing site for research purposes only.

Lee, I did not particularly like the location of Villa Gnocchi. Even after all our research here and other places, it was not a good choice for us.

We enjoyed staying closer to the town so that we could easily go there whenever we wanted to. We thought the Laurin, which was right on the harbor and close to all the shopping, restaurants, etc. was a far better last minute choice for us.

I would highly recommend the Laurin - large rooms (request one with a terrace) and a rooftop pool, too!

Enjoy your trip.

-
No question about it. Stay in Venice for two nights and leave out SML --- you can go there on your next trip to Italy. And this opinion is from a person who's not as Venice-crazy as many others here.
