Ryder Cup Wales Sept 2010

My family and I are planning a trip to Wales in Autumn 2010 for the Ryder Cup. We want to stay a month and see more of this beautiful country. We are planning to rent a large house somewhere quiet but ideally central for visiting different parts of Wales. We want to see some castles, ideally visit the Brecon beacons and maybe the beaches in West Wales as we've seen some impressive photographs. Oh and also visit the capital Cardiff. I have been to Cardiff before but its a first for my family. Can anyone recommend somewhere to stay? And which Welsh places would be top of your list to see during our stay?

I just returned from a trip to Wales, staying in the area you'll be visiting. Our base was Crickhowell, a very pretty small village on the eastern edge of the Brecon Beacons. From there you can easily reach several important castles, such as Chepstow, Caerphilly, Raglan etc. There is a somewhat larger town Abergavenneny even closer. I'd think either would make a good base. You might want to read the relevant parts of my trip report.

For anyone wanting a 10 day stay or more for the Ryder Cup 2010, we have a 7 bedroom guest house called Chapel Guest House in the pretty village of St Brides Newport, just 12mins drive from the Celtic Manor (host of the Ryder Cup 2010). We can also accommodate people in one of our serviced/self catering apartments 'At Home in the City, Newport Accommodation Apartments' in Newport Centre, just 5mins drive from the Celtic Manor. You can view all our accommodation on our directory website www.cathiebrown.co.uk We are currently updating our Ryder Cup website which will be shown on the site shortly. Wales is a beautiful Country so I'm sure you'll have an enjoyable trip wherever you decide to stay. Croeso y Gymru!

Top of my list of visits would be Brecon Beacons, Abergavenny, Wye Valley, Cardiff Bay. There are loads of Castles but one of the most spectacular is Castle Coch which translated means the Red Castle. There are so many wonderful places to visit in Wales. Tredegar House which is a stately home with beautiful gardens is in Newport and is worth a visit. Just google and ask for best places to stay in and around Newport and Cardiff. Hope this helps!
