Yes, I have. I spent several weeks in Englnd and my friend's uncle took us there for lunch.I enjoyed it and the old time clubby atmosphere and the attention they gave the uncle, in spite of the fact I wish he had taken us to a seafood plave.

Thomas - have you looked at their website? www.rules.co.uk
You will see amongst hundreds of other portraits, Maggie Thatcher larger than life, painted on a wall portrayed as Brittania ruling the Waves!
We had the Roast Beef & Yorkshire Pudding. The Yorkshire Pud was FAR too big. Took up the whole plate if I remember correctly which put me off a bit. Other than that the meal was delicious but on the expensive side.

Yes, had lunch there several years ago.
A good traditional British meal that is expensive, but worth it for a nice experience. We coupled it with dining out on that particular trip with hip restaurants and ethnic ones.
Service at Rules is excellent.

Actually, Rules is not that expensive for a London restaurant of that quality. We've paid more for less elsewhere, often. The food is very good, and the service is excellent -- efficient, yet friendly.
(By friendly, I don't mean U.S.-type-friendly where the waiter joins in your conversation and all but sits in your lap.)

Mjsilver - You are right, it's not THAT expensive but for us with our exchamge rate at the time (about 14 to 1 ) it was a huge price to pay! I remember my DH moaning about the cost of the meal.
I wanted to take a taxi back to the hotel but in the end we tubed it.
(He can't say I don't give in at times!)

Good to hear this good opinions of Rules. I've booked a New Year's Eve dinner for my family of four and can hardly wait.
Tod, your lucky your DH is frugal enough to want to tube it. I always have to talk my DH into taking the tube or bus after a posh meal instead of a taxi. It's as if he's Cinderella who must take a pumkin coach home. Once, after a very rich dinner at the Dorchester Grill, DH was persuaded to take a double-decker back to the hotel. Well, the lurching bus upset his stomach, he disembarked in a rush, and was sick on the curb! We laugh about it today.
