Rovinj, Croatia
Hello,
I will travel from Plitvice Lakes to Rovinj in June. My question is should I book accommodations ahead of time? I decided to go to Rovinj from Plitvice Lakes because it looks more convenient to travel to Venice (our next destination), and it looks like there is plenty of things to do in Rovinj for three days before we head to Italy. There are three of us traveling together, along with a seven year old child. Any suggestions would be great.

Punta Corrente is an easily accessible park just outside town, great for picnics, pathway along the seashore for both walkers and cyclists.
Lots of kiosks for refreshments in the park; not sure if they will be open in June.
We had plans to rent a car and spend a day touring the Istrian hill towns; in July, we were not able to get a car without having made a prior reservation.
Boat trips are a popular option from the harbour.
Basing yourselves in Rovinj is a good call as you are progressing on to Venice; the ferry is great - except for the unholy hour that it leaves at.

When traveling with a child, I would definitely book ahead.
Are you driving from Plitvice to Rovinj and then on to Venice? Or dropping the car and taking the boat to Venice? Can you drop the car in Rovinj?

Unless you are willing to pay far more than you need for much less desirable lodging than you would otherwise find, yes, book ahead. You will be there during high season. And if you have a car, you will probably want to plan ahead, as the core of Rovinj is not open to vehicles.
You might see if the Casa Garzotto meets your needs:

I would definitely book ahead for June. We stayed in a lovely apartment in Rovinj, it had seaviews and a little kitchen which would be nice for you with a child. You can buy a few things at the small supermarket and put together breakfast or something simple. We had a wonderful harbour view out of the windows and saw the Venice ferry come in one morning. I didn't know at the time you could reach Venice so easily from Rovinj - it had me mentally planning the next trip
Here is the website, they have a number of places and we found them very helpful to deal with.

We had a car and parked outside the town centre in the public car park. It was quite expensive but was within an easy, I guess 10 mins, walk of the centre of Rovinj.
