My flight for Toulon leaves at 6:20PM and I plan to be at the airpot at least by 4:45.I will have few extra hours before my departure and would like to see at least few of the city famous sights.
Any suggestion of what to see? I will arrive to Rott. by train from Amsterdam.

Stay in Amsterdam longer or go to the Hague if you have time to spare, not much in Rotterdam, if was bombed during the second world war and is not as interesting as other dutch citied.

I second that. I stayed in Rotterdam once and it is a modern city due to WWII bombing as the earlier poster said. And not modern in a good way as far as tourism goes. I would stop in a small town on the way if possible.

The bus to the airport leaves Rotterdam centraal station every 10 mins weekdays (15 mins weekends) and takes about 20 minutes to get to the airport. Bus number 33.

My husband and I enjoy architecture, so we went to Rotterdam to see the Kijk Kubus -

The Delfshaven area is nice to wander around. I believe it was spared during WWII, so it still has some old charm.

If it's a nice day, take the water taxi from Leuvehaven to the New York Hotel, where you can have a drink or a bite to eat. Taking the little water taxi across the Maas, dodging large barges in the way, can be quite the experience.

The main street that parallels the Leuvehaven is known as the "Walk of Fame", where you can see famous people's hand/footprints and signatures in cement along the sidewalk. It's kind of campy, but can be fun to look for the names you recognize.

If you can handle a Jackie Chan movie, <i>Who Am I?</i> has several scenes shot in Rotterdam, particularly around the Kijk Kubus.

Your train passes through Delft so catch a train that stops there and get off for a couple of hours.

I'm curious -- why you are going to Toulon? I spent a couple of days there many years ago. It is home to the French navy. The old town is a maze of alleys with little bars and hookers. The docks have an amazing collection of locals and Africans.

If you are into zoos you could visit Blijdorp zoo to pass a few hours if nothing else appeals. But I think you should give R'dam a chance. The Erasmus bridge is worth a visit on it's own!

Rotterdam is OK, but when time is short there are much more interesting cities and towns, as suggested by another emailer, Delft is pretty.

Hopscotch,I am going to spend few days with my niece and her family. She used to live in Paris but asked to be transferred at Toulon because wants her child to grow up with fresh sea air and sunshine.
Paris is a beautiful city but I imagine that can be pretty tiring after awhile , especially if you have children.

Delft is only about 10-15 minutes from Rotterdam by train. It is a really pretty town. I've been to Rotterdam a couple of times, but I have never seen anything of interest...maybe KFC
