Yes, it was a bit heavy and precluded the need for lunch. I didn't buy a tin of schneeballen to take home (although it was an option), but I was glad I tried one. The one I tried was covered in powdered sugar and had some kind of champagne filling, which might have helped.

Judy,
the Weißwurst is a bit more common in upper Bavaria and esp. in and around Munich than in Rothenburg. Though you will probably also get some there.
It's not so much a real breakfast but more a snack, traditionally for the a.m. hours between breakfast and lunch.
Actually, it's not even a tradition to eat them before noon (and not 11am, by the way), but had been a necessity since the sausages got invented in pre-refrigerator times and had been made from fresh meat every day.
Nowadays, you can get them any time of the day.
They get boiled like hotdogs, but are made from veal with many herbs and a twist of lemon. They taste quite good, actually, but different than a hotdog.
The only thing you have to keep in mind is that you do NOT eat the skin.

Just another opinion on the Schneeball... my wife just had to try them. We bought 2, we each took a bite and tossed them in the nearest refuse can.
Unfortunately, I'm the type of person that even (especially) if I recieved so many negative comments on the schneeball before going, I would have tried them just to satisfy my own curiosity.
