Try www.italyhotel.com/roma. You can then click on a map of Rome and connect to hotel websites. I don't know how many rooftop gardens would be open in December but I do remember seeing some hotels with glassed-in rooftops. Enjoy Rome--it's wonderful!

Janice,

A few that I know of - Raphael near Piazza Novona, Forum near the Forum, Eden (more than 3 star) but gorgeous - with a glassed in restaurant at the top.
Scalinata D'Spagna at the top of the Spanish Steps.

If you look in the Red Michelin Guide you can see where the hotels are located and the description will tell you if there is a view. It's in Italian - but if you need help understanding the "code", let me know...

Dona

The Cecil Hotel, just off Via Sistina in Via Francesco Crispi, has a roof garden. When I was there (Sept. 96) they didn't have the bar open (imagine its only open June-Aug), but one could still go up there. Fairly good views and lots of potted geraniums - very Roman!

On the more budget side, both the 2-star

-Hotel Campo de' Fiori (Via del Biscione 6, Tel. +39 06 68806865/6874886, Fax. +39 06 6876003/68309036)
-Albergo del Sole (Via del Biscione 76, Tel. +39 06 68806873/6879446/68805258/6893784, Fax. +39 06 6893787, email [email protected], web page http://home.venere.it/roma/sole/)

have rooftop gardens and you should pay about Lit 170,000-190,000 for a double in December. At equal rates I would stay with the Sole.

Paulo
On antoher Rome hotel thread, I mentioned the recent review by Susan Spano (www.latimes.com) of medium priced hotels in rome, and Paulo's recommendation (Albergo del Sole) is first on Ms. Spano's list (okay, well, the list is in alphabetic order - - so sue me!)

Anyhow, excerpted below is her description.

Albergo del Sole. Within hailing distance of the Campo de' Fiori, this 60-room, two-star hotel, in a building that dates from the 15th century, has long been known for its clean rooms with tile floors, high ceilings, armoires and pretty floral fabrics. The hotel's charms include several pleasant parlors, a patio garden, a penthouse apartment accommodating four and a parking garage (rare in Rome; about $25 per day). 76 Via del Biscione, tel. 011-39-06-6880-6873, fax 011-39-06-689- 3787. Rates: $93 to $115 with private bath, $76 to $82 without, excluding breakfast, no credit cards.

Best wishes,

Rex

Thank you all for your wonderful help with hotels in Rome. Since we were going this weekend, we opted to go back to Amsterdam istead of Rome as we already know that city and do know the hotel we like. Which is Tulip Inn Dam Square. Thanks again, J.Garrison
