Rome's Terme di Caracalla
Apparently, they've begun having concerts at this site again in summer. We're considering attending one of them. Has anyone been to an event at Caracalla recently? How difficult is it to get to? How long does it take to get there from, say, Termini or Repubblica? Metro, bus, taxi, train? It is off the map of Rome I have. Thanks.

Can't answer your questions about the concerts, but, on my map, the Terme di Caracalla is a short distance south of the Colosseum. Coming from the Campidoglio you take a right just before the Col., walk one long block and enter Porta Capena park. The baths are in the park. Taxi or metro should be easy from just about any point in Rome.

Hello MCW,

The nearest metro station is CIRCO MASSIMO on Line 'B'.
Or you could take bus no. 628 from Piazza Venezia.

When are you going? I'll find you the online programme ...

Steve
www.santacecilia.it
www.2001estateromana.it
Hello again MCW,

Well - unfortunately you just miss the Santa Cecilia programme of summer concerts at Caracalla. It's on NOW and finishes on 25.7

However, there are outdoor concerts on the dates you've given me at Villa Torlonia. For the programme, see:-
www.tempietto.com/concerti/estate_2001.html

Alternatively, if you're into opera there's the 'Magic Flute' or 'Il Trovatore' on those dates at indoor venues. Let me know if you want details on these ...

Other venues for outdoor concerts in the next few weeks besides Villa Torlonia are Villa Ada and the Foro Italico.

Hope this helps ...

Steve

Steve
I don't see an English version of the tempietto website and my Italian isn't good enough yet for me to decipher everything. I get that it's the summer 2001 schedule, and I can read how to order tickets and what the programs of the music, but for one thing, where the heck is Villa Torlonia? Are there websites for any indoor concerts, for example, are there any concerts in churches?

MCW - There IS a performance at Caracalla of Verdi's 'Jerusalem' (opera/ballet) on the dates you give.

Another possibility is a Beethoven (symph. no 7)/Mendelsohn (Fingal's Cave & Conc. in Em op 64) concert.

Betsy/Dale/DJ - The Caracalla season is only in July/Aug - so you'll miss it by a few weeks.
The info I have is primarily about L'Estate Romana summer festival events, most of which finish in August, - although there are still outdoor concerts at Villa Torlonia in Sept. (see website above)

Elaine - most of the sites I have are in Italian, unfortunately. When are you going?

Steve

MCW - Hope you make it to Caracalla. As a concert/opera setting it's hard to beat!! Buon viaggio.

Elaine - I didn't answer your Q yesterday; Villa Torlonia is a park on Via Salaria, near Villa Borghese.

Apart from the events there, Teatro dell'Opera lists a 'Concerto Sinfonico' on 21/22 Sept. See:-
www.opera.roma.it

Below are some useful websites for you, Betsy, Dale & DJ for events in Sept/Oct:

www.caltanet.it/frm/estateromana
www.romeguide.it/FrameSeting.html
www.santacecilia.it
www.newoperafestivaldiroma.com
www.interensemble.org
www.tempietto.com/concerti/estate_2001.html

Hope this helps...
