romeinlimo question
Hello all,
We are considering using tour companies like Rome in Limo, etc for our shore excursions when on a cruise.
For Rome, their website says that they will pick us up and take us to a few places, and then drop us back to the boat.
Has someone who has used them please comment in detail about exactly how they spent the day with the driver. For example, does the driver drive you up to the Trevi fountain and forum, etc and escort you there or do they just park the car at a distance and stay in the car. I know that they just drop you in front of the vatican and pick you up, and not come inside with you.
These tours cost a lot in my opinion, but can be worth it depending on the driver's involvement and ease of travel to specific sites.
Otherwise, we may just take the train into Rome, and take cabs around.
Any help for Rome and Florence/Pisa would be highly appreciated.
thanks in advance!

It seems to me that the company could best tell you just what services they provide. Have you asked them exactly what happens on their tours? If you know they don't come inside the Vatican, where did you find that information? Did they tell you? Ask about the other places.

Many areas are pedestrian only so I don't think they could take you everywhere. The port (Civitavecchia) is an hour from Rome. The fastest train on that route (ICPlus) takes about 50 minutes and cost is 8.5E 2nd class one way.

First of all in this day of the Internet ,do some home work on Rome, like places you would like to see and make a list and take the list with you.
You most likely have already done this.
In many areas in Rome , there is No vehicle traffic or else only certain vehicles can go there... like taxis and small tour mini vans etc.
Your driver may be very knowledgable about Rome and its history.... BUT... to be a tour guide in Italy you have to be licensed.
When I got off the cruise ship ...I had my driver take me to Rome where I met my ( booked) Tour Guide.
It was the Tour Guide that came everywhere with me and explained everything....at the end of the day my driver then drove me back to the cruise ship.
So if your driver just takes you here and there....that is all he is able to do by law....unless he is also a licensed tour guide.
Hopes this info helps..I was in Rome 5 months ago.

Usually with these companies ( I haven't used this particular one in Rome) if you want a tour guide that's in addition to the driver. If you only have a driver you might luck out and have a "chatty" one but they are not really tour guides. I have been in Rome a lot of times and never used a guide. I don't know if that's good or bad . Why don't you buy a good travel guide, map out what you want to see and train it plus take cabs or metro. Rome is a pretty easy city to navigate.

Percy,
Our group of six is considering this now. We'll be on the Celebrity Millenium docking at Civit. at 7:00 and will need to arrive at the Vatican before 10:00 am to enter with a licensed guide (booked by the company that will meet us at the dock). Otherwise, we join the long line when the Vatican Museum opens at 10:00.
Since we will not be booking the ship's excursion, do you have an idea of what time we'll be able to get the ship?
Thank you for any information you can provide.
