I'm going to say "train" as in Cinque Terre there probably isn't an airport near by. There are many schedules for the trains and really beautiful areas that they go through.

Hello recentlyretired (isn't being retired wonderful?). Here is the English language version for the Italian trains which will give you routes, schedules, prices etc.

People on Fodor's have reported the past days that the website is not working properly (those that want to order their train ticket(s) online). But you can buy your train ticket either at the train station in Rome or at various travel agencies in Rome including the American Express office by the Spanish Stairs or at the Rome airport (I think!). Have a wonderful trip.http://www.trenitalia.com/en/index.html

Private limo, but it's costly.

Even a private limo is likely to encounter road traffic that trains wont.

Go by train. It's relaxing. About 4 hours connecting thru Florence.
