Rome Rush Hour?
We are driving from Venice to Rome (Fiumicino) on Wednesday the 26th of Sept. We are figuring 7 hours, for stops for toll roads and lunch/gabinetti breaks. There are 7 of us so I imagine we'll stop at least twice enroute to FCO.
I have been to Rome (and Italy) many times, but haven't driven in/around Rome. Are there peak times, or is like Atlanta where Rush Hour is from 6 a.m. til 8 p.m.?
Any comments appreciated...

Rush hour is now only 6 AM to 8 PM? Gee, I guess people are riding MARTA more now since I can remember the Downtown Connector being bumper-to-bumper at 2:00 AM. And that doesn't even count Freaknik!
8-)
The few times I've been on the GRA, I was definitely reminded of I-285. If you remember the two basic rules of Atlanta driving (1: Drive offensively, not defensively 2: the minimum speed limit is 75 or the route number, whichever is higher), you'll do fine in Rome.
Now you understand why I left Atlanta and moved to Charlotte 7 years ago....

Hi W,
It doesn't matter if it's rush hour or not, driving IN Rome is maniacal.
The only place worse that I have seen is Naples.
www.michelin.com says that it is a 6-hr drive. If you will be taking breaks, I suggest that you plan for 8 hr.

You really have no need to enter Rome to get to Fiumicino. Assuming you'll be on the autostrada, you just head to the west when you hit the ring road, go 1/4 of the circle and head on out to the airport. While the roads will be full, should not be too bad as you'll be reverse commuting til you hit the ring.
