Rome - Millennium 1999/2000

Four of us are going to Rome in late December 1999 specifically to celebrate the millennium. Problem: how do we find out what's going on? Is there a web site? We want to make reservations and do the evening right, in black tie, etc. But we're having trouble finding out what's available and who might know. HELP. Any advice or information would be sincerely appreciated. I've been chosen to be the "planner" for this outing, and I'd like to come up with something great and memorable. If you have advice, I'll listen. My wife, her sister and her husband are counting on me. Many thanks!!!

There is a site called Roma2000 which is dedicated to giving information in preparation for the big Jubilee. Check it out, it might help.
Reply to Dayle: I contacted Roma2000 but it seems to be a Vatican site, and isn't functioning properly for some reason. Also, the e-mail procedure is very complex and involves a non-cooperating security function of some type - wasn't able to communicate with the site to seek further information. So, thanks anyway for the idea. Any other suggestions out there? Really need your help. Thanks

When we were in Rome about a month ago, our tour director and guide commented about Rome 1999/2000. It will be a Holy Year with the special door at St. Peter's unsealed. They are, as you most likely already know, are expecting many, many thousands of visitors. She also commented that most of her friends who live in Rome are going to their countryside homes for the "duration" and have already rented their Rome apartments even as far ahead as for Aug/Sept 2000. Suggest you make plans very soon and book asap.

Joe, you might also try www.initaly.com It's called Italy On Line and has a little bit of everything, including links to lots of other Italian sites. I haven't visited Roma2000 in a while, but there is an English and an Italian version. I'll try it and see whats up.
