Just a suggestion, gloria. It would probably be a lot more helpful to people offering suggestions if you'd give your specific price range rather than a vague term like "moderate." Having just been in Rome, I discovered what other people here said: it's surprisingly small and easy to get around it so almost any location in the Centro Storico will be convenient.

One option you might want to consider is a bed & breakfast. My girlfriend stayed in one and really enjoyed it. We booked it through the Bed & Breakfast Association of Rome, website at: http://www.b-b.rm.it/

Gloria: We rented a B&B room just a block from the Campo di Fiori thru guestinitaly.com ours was Piazza Monte di Pieta. It was a fair price and clean; we stayed in a "deluxe" 2 br w/ friends--really it was a small apt. w/ LR and small kitchen. We liked having the extra room and fridge for snacks and wine. We could easily walk to most everything, except for the Borghese Museum and that area of Rome. Good luck.

We stayed at the B&B Piazza Monte di Pieta in November 2002 and have a mixed opinion on it. The location was very convenient and the room was clean and comfortable. However, we had to ask that the toilet paper be restocked (we ran out!) which was a little bit of a pain since we had a hard time locating anyone that worked there. Also, one night we needed the heat turned on, but again could not find anyone. The breakfast was not so great either. I do not think it is a bad place to stay, and it does have its good points, but I just do not think we would stay there again.
