Rome in 2 days
Will be spending only 1 full day and 2 half days in Rome. Want to visit the Vatican, Sistine Chapel, Castel St. Angelo on the full day. Plan to visit the Collesium on one of the half days. How should I complete my 1/2 day visit to the Collesium? Is it in an area which is nice to just "rome" around? I realize this is a very broad question, but would like some ideas for my last 1/2 day. Don't want to spend too much time inside. Thanks.

I agree that the Forum should be done with the Coloseum. Also in the vicinity of the Coloseum is the Victorio Emanuel III monument (can't be missed) at the end of Via Del Corso in front of the Forum. There is an art gallery in the back area that often features very wonderful shows (we saw a Magritte exhibit last year). Also nearby is the Capitoline Museum next to Victorio Emanuel monument. And you are not too far from the Jewish Ghetto for great history and some of the best restaurants in Rome. Also, in the vicinity is San Pietro in Vincoli-the church that housed Michelangelo's Moses.
There is plenty to concentrate on in that area. Good walking shoes are a must. Also, don't miss a nighttime walk to see the Coloseum lit up at night. Now don't forget to see the Trevi Fountain, Pantheon, Piazza di Spagna- just sit on the Spanish Stairs and gaze, Piazza Navonna, Via Condotti for shopping or window shopping.A fun place to eat is Orso'80 not too far from Piazza Navonna- just order the antipasta- a wide variety of food comes to the table- and of course a bottle of wine. A wonderful restaurant is Myosotis-not too far from Pantheon. Have a great trip.
The Colosseum and Roman Forum can easily eat up half a day or more. If you find you have more time, you can wander up the Palatine Hill, as well as see the nearby Campidoglio square and the Victor Emmanuel Monument.

Without a doubt, on the other half day, I would start as early as possible. Visit Piazza Navona, the Pantheon, the Trevi Fountain, and the Spanish Steps (you may also wish to throw in Campo dei Fiori and Piazza del Popolo).

Whatever you do, make sure to eat lots of gelato between sights.
