I am traveling to Rome for the third time in March, this time alone. I have seen what my guide book describes as the top ten sites to see. I wondering if anyone has complied a list of church's and museum's in the same neighborhood? I also have a choice to make regarding accommodation's.I have the opportunity to stay at the Villa Rosa convent which is on via delle Terme Deciane 5 or a B&B in the Trastevere area. I will have three full days to visit the sites. Thanks

Have you been to Ara Pacis? Toured the Scavi excavations? Walked on the Via Appia?

Where is the B&B in Trastevere? If you're staying very far west of the river, you'll spend time getting to most sights.

San Clemente is fascinating with amazing mosaics and then the 2 underground levels, including an area of worship for the Roman god Mythras. Not too far away is San Giovanni e Laterno, one of the 4 basilicas of Rome. If you are interested in Mannerist art, there is plenty in the basilica.

The tourist board lists the churches, contact info, times, etc., but I doubt they keep it totally up to date.

The B&B is located on via Luciano Manara. I have toured the Scavi excavations, but have not been to Ara Pacis or walked on the Via Appia.

How about "walks"? They are self-paced and usually last anywhere from 1 1/2 to 3 hours.

Palazzo Doria Pamphilj was pretty spectacular--you'll need to google it for the days it's open.

I got so hooked on Bernini stuff--googling him will be helpful. Santa Maria della Vittoria church has one of the 3 ecstacy statues. Sigh.

Thanks for the replies. I thought I would visit the Doria Pamphiji this time. There are so many churches I look forward to seeing as well. I like the idea of downloading walks, I read Passage to Rome has several to choose from. The B&B I'm considering stay at is in Trastevere. The address is via Luciano Manara 4. I'm not familiar with the area, will I spend a lot of time getting around or is it centrally located?

That's a good, convenient location. Have you been to Santa Cecilia in Trastevere (assuming you've been to Santa Maria in Trastevere)?

Across town, have you been to Palazzo Venezia? It's one of the national museums.

There's plenty to do in Rome no matter how many times you've been. Check Dave's website listed above, and do a search here. You will easily fill your days. And your nights too if you want.

Actually, I was thinking of Galleria Barberini, but Palazzo Venezia is good too. You can find both on Borghese website I linked to.
