Rome/Cilento -- 7 days

Hi, I am going on a romantic getaway at the end of June to Rome/Cilento (we chose Cilento over Amalfi to avoid the crowds). We'd like to do 2-3 days in Rome at the end of our trip, and want to relax and soak up the scenery and culture in Cilento for the first 5 days. We are thinking of staying 2-3 days in Pisciotta, and don't know where to spend the other 2-3 days. Agropolis? Castellabate? Any other ideas? We haven't decided whether to rent a car or not. Any tips and advice from those who have been would be much appreciated!
Thank you!

I think that you would be better off with a car in the Cilento, though not in Rome.

I think that Pisciotta is. good choice. Do you plan to spend time on the beach? The beaches near Palinuro are beautiful, but the actual town is more of a holiday resort. Marina di Camerota has a good beach. Castellabate does as well, and you can visit Paestum from there, easily.

Let us know more about what you plan to do and maybe I can offer more suggestions.

Cilento at the end of June sounds lovely. We were just there for the second time: 2 days in Pisciotta and 3 days at an agriturismo in Bosco, near Scario. We loved both places.

In Pisciotta - you probably know this already - but Hotel Mariluvo is lovely. It has very good restaurants and we enjoyed the lively people watching scene on the steps by the bar. It functions as the piazza.

We've stayed twice at Tenuta Terre di Bosco and loved it. The rooms are large with nice terraces, sea views, and the food (you can have breakfast and dinner there) is delicious. Very friendly family. Highly recommended. I hope to post a trip report complete w/ photos soon.

For Cilento it really helps to have a car.

Rose: I am so eager to read your report!

Hotels I've stayed at in the area are these, in case anyone wants opinions; prices are probably not much more than half those of comparable properties in season on the Amalfi Coast.

We encountered very few, if any, English-speaking tourists during our stay in the area in late September.

Thank you!

Our rough plan is this: We are going to spend two nights in Santa Maria di Castellabate (Hotel Sonia or Hotal Paradiso -- any opinions?) and plan visit Paestum from there. Then two nights at Hotel Mariluvo in Pisciotta (and visit Palinuro from there). Finally three nights back in Rome.

While in cilento, we will see a few sites, but mostly relax and hopefully have some good meals.

How does that all sound?

CJB930 - I think that sounds just perfect. Hotel Paradiso seems to have much better reviews so I'd lean towards that one.

We were completely entertained in Pisciotta by going to the marina, eating lunch, wandering up to the square, watching people, then eating dinner for a few hours. We were exhausted by all that activity!

ekscrunchy - soon! I'm wishing now I took better notes in the restaurants. And I hope to get some photos up to share.
