Rome - are dogs allowed on public trans?
We're flying to Rome at the end of the week and are taking our small dog (4-5 lbs) with us. Does anyone know if dogs are allowed on the train from FCO to Termini, as well as on the subway?

Hopeful your dog is well traveled and can take the trip in stride...
That said, can't speak to Rome, although I'm sure you are using one of those dog "bags" ??? with the air vents, etc? No one will ever know.
We took our goldens hiking in Zermatt Switzerland, and they were allowed on the trains there from our town(no cars allowed in Zermatt) and on the mountain - cost us half fare (child rate) for each. Most folks in Italy were very accommodating to our dogs at outdoor restaurants, etc. Good luck.

I'm sure they must do. I was in a few restaurants that allowed dogs inside. Not very nice to have two LARGE dogs sitting next to you in a smart restaurant like Gusto. If they allow that in a restaurant, I can't imagine they would refuse a small dog on a train.

I don't think you will encounter the problem that happened in Florida yesterday where an elderly deaf lady was accosted because she brought her "hearing aid" dog into a fast food chain. Apparently some lady got very upset - Shouted "Disgusting" and hit the poor deaf lady square in the face. Hospitalization was apparentl not necessary, but the police had to be called to quiet the ruckus!

Riffic, Italy is very "dog friendly" I saw dogs on trains, on the metro, on the buses in Rome.Might be a problem during peak hour when buses and metros are very crowded - otherwise you will not experience any problems. With your small dog, you will definitely not experience a problem - supose you will carry him/her if it is crowded.

thanks for all for the replies. I had hoped for an answer like lekker's.
We leave for the airport in about 12 hours. It's a short, 3 day trip from Munich, but I think I've got it pretty organized so that we take full advantage of our time.
I'll post a trip report on our hotel and restaurants when we return.

Several years ago while visiting my friend in Rome, we took the train up to Florence. Of course, she brought along "Austin" her 13-yr old chihuahua, who she used to take everywhere with her. She carted him around in one of those doggie bags, w/air vents, and zippered top. He was a seasoned traveler and very quiet. Now that it's been four years since this trip, I can now admit we even took Austin into the Uffizi Museum with us --- I'm not recommending this, and we'd likely been booted out the door if they'd known. In these post 9/11 times, I suspect all totes & large bags are subject to search.
