Rome apartment rental agencies

Looking for recommendations for reputable apartment rental agencies in Rome. Most of what I've found online (Rich Steves & Trip Advisor) are very old (5+ years). Looking for more recent favorable experiences.
Thanks in advance.

Although it's been a few years, I have used www.sleepinitaly.com many times with good results.

Our last two room rentals have been with these people and we've been very happy with them.

We used Rome Loft in 2017 and VRBO last month. Happy with both experiences.

I've used some other booking agencies for Rome, but I now use www.booking.com for renting apartments. Most of their apartments can be paid for with a credit card, and none that I've rented has required an advance deposit. Also, I feel that their reviews are more trustworthy.

On the booking.com website, enter your destination as "Rome city center" (or the exact neighborhood you prefer). On the left-hand side of the webpage, you can choose the type of lodging you want, so just check "apartment".

Any reason you don't consider airbnb? I've had past good luck with them in Rome, and just recently booked apartments in Rome and Florence for an upcoming trip.

What Seamus said. It was my thought when the post first went up but I say so often enough that I fear people will think I work for Airbnb. There are loads of well-priced apartments in Rome on the site. Just read reviews carefully & make sure it's where you want to be.

I never rent an apartment. Always book a hotel or hostel. So I am more confident in my rest and comfort.

Things can go wrong at a hotel or hostel just as easily as they can go wrong with an apartment rental.

glen is talking I think about personal safety of self and belongings and things like being open when you arrive or even at all - hotels no surprises - very little chance of theft, etc. but hostels IMO may involve theft problems. And yes this forum is full of 'experts' who always always always warm against airbnb no matter where or what, throwing the baby out with the bath water. Be sure to checkout a proper registration number with the municipality to be sure the place is properly certified.

Registration numbers are a Paris thing, and as far as I know not applicable to Rome. I've seen no references to or discussions of apartment "registration" in Rome.

Right. Like I said, those things can go wrong at a hotel just as easily as at a rental unit. Probably more so because there are more people involved - in a hotel all kinds of staff have access to your room. In a private rental probably there isn't a maid, etc. coming and going.

I myself prefer to stay at a hotel rather than an apartment, except: (1) when traveling with a family group, where an apartment gives you shared space to spend time together in the evening; or, (2) when staying in the same place for more than several days, when I get tired of always eating out. Other than that, I appreciate the hotel services and the break from housework. Also, hotels have much more rigid safety standards than apartments.

We just rented through Airbnb for October of this year in Rome. I find no matter where you book reviews are almost always good to glowing, so I guess you take your chances whether you stay in a rental or hotel. I am hopeful everything turns out well for us, but as others have stated things can go awry anywhere. I just took my time poring over reviews photos etc and then I cross my fingers.

This is not true of booking.com. I find their reviews quite reliable. They only accept reviews from people who have actually stayed in the hotel or apartment. For apartments, the reviews are necessarily not numerous, and I don't consider ratings reliable when they're based on small numbers. For hotels, I don't consider anything with a rating lower than 7.5, and I read the reviews to see what the problem was. If someone complains about lack of parking, and I'm arriving by train, I discount that review.

My last travels through Italy & Spain I used airbnb and was very happy with my apartments. I tend to stick with "super hosts" and look through the reviews carefully for mentions such as: noise, location, bed comfort, etc. and in Italy flights of stairs(!) The thing I like about airbnb, if you show up and the place is a dump, you can reject the place and get a refund (just don't spend a night there)- of course it is a hassle, but it is good to know, so you are not completely stuck.. I have never had this happen only good luck so far..

The same is true for me. When traveling by myself, I definitely opt for hotels.

@usernameistaken: Thank you. Do you know how far (walking distance) this building is to Campo de Fiori?
