There are lots of apartments. Check out the broker www.sleepinitaly.com

Check back here or other sites for reviews of specific apartments as they're not all created equally.

In Florence, but a bit out of the center (about 15 minute walk from the train station), you might try http://www.residenzailcarmine.com/

Hi

Don't know what your budget is but you could have a look at http://www.vrbo.com/13314. Food market across the street. Unfortunately a pastry shop next door . Others to choose from the VRBO site.

I highly suggest this apartment in Rome. Just got back and thought it was perfect. The owner is fantastic and there is a fresh market just in front as well as a supermarket, a pastry shop, and several good restaurants.
