Rome Accomodations & more

My husband, myself and our 17 year old son will spend 5 nights in Rome. Does anyone have a favorite hotel they would go back to? Also, what tours outside of Rome are worthwhile? Thanks

I havent been to rome but have been doing a lot of reasearch and found somegood hotels with decent rates under L300 a night..... here they are

Hotel Due Torri (near Piazza Navona)
Hotel Portoghesi (near Piazza Navona)
Hotel Sant Angelo (near the Vatican)
Genio Hotel (near Piazza Navona)
Hotel La Residenza (near Vie vento)
Hotel Rinascimento (near camop fiore)

The hotel Due torri also has a suite which has a double bed and a single bed, for L360,000. I think it is a two romm version.

Here are a few that are a bit more expensive-

Hotel Regno (near Trevi Fountain)
Hotel Trevi (near Trevi Fountain)
Hotel Manfreddi (near Spanish steps)
Albergo Santa Chiara (near Spanish Steps) this one looks particularry good.

Most of these can be accessed via www.venere.com or www.italmarket.com or www.travel.it/roma/

BOOK EARLY!! the best rooms go fast!

My preferred location to stay in Rome is Pantheon, Piazza Navona and Campo dei Fiori area. You may try the Marcella (Via Flavia 106, Phone: +3906 4746451, Fax: +39 06 4815832), one of best midsize hotels with a quite intimate and familiar ambient. Rooms are large enough to fit a 3rd bed nicely.
A second choice in the area is the Teatro di Pompeo (Largo del Pallaro 8, Phone: +39 06 6872812, Fax: +39 06 68815531). This a very small refined hotel (13 rooms) in a superb location. Bookings should be done well in advance ... it's always filled up.

Paulo

As for day trips, although with only 5 nights in Rome you won't come close to see what's there to see, you may consider visiting Ostia Antica or the Tivoli Villas.

Paulo
