rome accomodations
Planning 3 nights in Rome near the end of June and need to find accomodations. Would like to spend no more than 140 euro.
Does anyone have recommendations for location and specific hotel/apartment/b&b recommendations? I'm considering staying near the pantheon, or near Campo de' Fiori to be close to sites.
Any comments about Hotel Pomezia or Hotel Julia would be appreciated.
Also, wondering if anyone has had good luck booking an apartment through cross-pollinate.com.

You don't say how many of you there are, but this B&B suite has a good reputation and is well within your price range: http://www.apartment-saint-peters.com/

Larry, a couple of friends and I stayed in a studio in Trastevere from cross-pollinate, but I didn't do the arranging (I just met them there). It was perfectly adequate and cheap. The company was legitamate and we had no problems with them.
Last May my sister and I rented a studio on via dei Cappellari from realrome.com. See the apartment reviews for these studios on slowtrav because I think the descriptions there are accurate. I would rent from realrome again--very easy to deal with.
My caveat: these are not luxury places!
Enjoy Rome.

Thanks for your replies. There are two of us looking for a place. Now looking into cross pollinate and sleep in Italy.com. I will also look at realrome.com and the apartment saint-peters.
We don't need anything luxury...just safe, clean, and within walking distance to sites.
Thanks!

I stayed at Hotel Julia a year ago. I was in a single so I don't know what the doubles were like. But, the location was good, I walked everywhere except took the metro to the vatican. The hotel was clean, the staff very helpful and a decent breakfast. They have a sister hotel next door, I think it is the Hotel Julia Domus.
Several blocks to the Trevi fountain, a little longer to Pantheon but all very doable.
Have fun time!

We booked an apartment through www.italy-accom.com this year and found them very good - and very helpful when the owner of our original apartment cancelled, leaving them and us to find a last minute replacement. They have apartments in all areas and all price-ranges. also last-minute.com may help. Good luck!

Yes we booked with cross polinate and they were very prompt and helpful. However our plans changed enroute and we had to cancel (never returned to rome for the last night) and they have essentially a 6 day cancellation policy. Just an aside. For the longer part of our stay we looked at sleepinitaly.com and liked their service. I definitley like the apartment route.

I am going to Rome in August. Booked a hotel for 4 nights using Expedia. I'm not sure if by 140 Euro you meant per night or for all 3 nights together, But I got a hotel in Central Rome for around $45 Euro per night. It is called Hotel Seiler. Its only 1 1/2 stars but looked to have what I needed. Close to all the sites.

Larry, although stingray got a good price, I wouldn't want to get Hotel Seiler. It's on Via Firenze, close to Termini, and really not "close to all the sites." Your idea of staying near the Pantheon or Campo de' Fiori (or Piazza Navona) is a much better location.

Sorry I didn't notice your original question about the Hotel Julia. We just returned from staying in their Domus Julia apartment 'annex'. We thought it was very nice and in a good location. Breakfast buffet in the hotel is a bonus, as it's more than the standard Italian breakfast of cold rolls and coffee. It includes boiled eggs, ham, croissants, cereals, coffees, etc. We walked everywhere from there. The Barberini Palace is at the top of the street, and the Spanish Steps are especially close, too. Great location and value; very clean and friendly. You can find my trip report if you click on my name above. It includes more about the Domus Julia and some very good restaurants.

We stayed at the Hotel Piranesi in Rome- in the Piazza Del Popolo (spelling)- very near Spanish steps. Great location, very clean, great staff, small- the most amazing roof top bar area... loved it and would defianatly recommend.

here is the web site for Piazza Monte di pieta
....http://www.guestinitaly.com/accommod...me/rb01_3.html
Ask for a room overlooking their piazza. Close to everything and we always walked wherever we went..Spanish steps, Vatican, Trestevere, the termini, Colesseum are all walkable and we are mid 50's. Campo di Fiore is great in the am for the market and again after it's transformation in the evening.
